Going through the motions
Building a business takes work and before you understand the 6 phases of your business i need you to understand this. Regardless of what the gurus will tell you, very few people make $10,000 a month in just 30 days. Don’t get me wrong, people have done it, but for the average Joe just learning– this business takes time and dedication.
There is a process to building a real business. No matter if you’re building an online business or a traditional brick and mortar business, there is a process everyone has to go through.
The 6 Phases Of Your Business To Succeed
Research Phase- The research phase is the beginning phase. This is the time when you first discover the possibilities of making money online. You begin researching how everyone is making a living online.
In this phase you’re fascinated with all of the different money methods, you spend endless hours reading, and you’re a bit naive. You’re probably reading titles like— Click here for my secret method to how I made $257,000 in 3 months— Act Now!!!
You’re spinning your wheels and becoming obsessed with the idea of quitting your day job and living the dream. You buy e-books, sign up to every email list you can find, and end up frustrated from all the claims and scams.
You’re spending to much time reading and not taking any action. You keep reading endlessly trying to figure out the “Secret” to how everyone is succeeding.
At this point you’re doubting yourself and thinking you will never get anywhere. You feel like everyone is lying about the money they’re making and you don’t know who to trust.
Self doubt is kicking in and you feel depressed and defeated. You think you will never be able to figure this out. You’re ready to accept the reality that you may be stuck in a day job the rest of your life.
You’re frustrated and decide to give up or stop reading about these make money online schemes.
Two weeks later it hits you!!!! You realize there is no secret, the secret is hard work. It all makes sense, you’ve been reading way to much and not trying anything. How can I make money if I don’t try anything?
The Start-Up Phase- Now we have entered the startup. You now have set a goal that you will figure this out. You’re committed to making this work and learning how to create your dream life.
You keep telling yourself if others can do it, so can I. You now are starting to learn how to use WordPress, Install Ad-sense, and build backlinks.
You finally start feeling like you’re accomplishing something. You finally got your first website up on the internet and you’re ready to tackle the world. You have all these ideas of how you will create 1000 websites that only make $5 a month if you have to.
You set a goal that you’re going to make $15,000 a month, and you will do whatever it takes to make this happen.
You’re now spending every night building websites and losing sleep to make your dream come true. You’re still reading how to make money, but you’re applying what you’re reading.
You start seeing some profit from all your efforts– it’s only $60 a month, but you don’t care because you’re making money on the internet and did something others wish they could do.
You start building momentum and keep working hard. Now you’re getting motivated and start trying other methods like building websites for offline business owners because you read you can make more money doing it. You realize you have more knowledge about online marketing than 99% of business owners and they need your help.
You get your first client and now you are on top of the world. You think if I just get 50 more this year I can make more than I do in my day job, and I’m going to finally get to quit my day job.
Things are looking up— Thoughts of owning that nice BWM and making $100,00 a year living the “Dream Life” enter your mind.
You get a few more clients and you feel like you’ve made it– you see the dream of quitting your job insight. You’re now planning how you can quit your day job in two months and pursue your dream full time. Finally, life has given me a break!!!
The Struggle- Now you have unexpected personal problems that throw a roadblock in the way of your path to success. You’re devastated and you don’t feel like going to work and you have no drive to come home and work on your business after work.
You see your business slip through your fingers. All the hard work you worked for is passing you by, but you can’t seem to motivate yourself to get up and keep going. You’re depressed— and you feel sorry for yourself. The business can wait!!!
You now have lost most of your clients, your affiliate sites have lost Google rankings and people are telling you—-“I told you so, making money on the internet is only for people scamming people”.
You feel completely defeated and you accept defeat. You rant to your friends and family. Even though they love you, they tell you “Things will get better or Things will be OK”
You give up!!! You start accepting that the day job is your future. You work 2 more months in a job you hate and can’t stand showing up to.
You bitch and complain to your friends about how life is unfair and how miserable you’re. They listen to you, but you can tell they just think you’re crazy with your dreams of owning your own business. You get more frustrated because they just don’t understand.
You keep thinking that life has to be better than this. You’re not meant for this lifestyle. If you got as far as you did, why did you give up?
You think to yourself can I do this again?
The TEST- In this phase everything makes sense. You realize what you did wrong. You think back to how you read Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich”.
You remember reading about how Andrew Carnegie and Henry Ford had to go through the struggle as well. You remember in Think and Grow Rich how Napoleon says that success is right outside of your comfort zone.
You remember back when you started out, you read about all the successful people like Donald Trump having to file Bankruptcy and rebuilding their businesses from scratch.
You now know that success is only reserved for people who don’t give up. Everyone has to go through this phase.
It’s not normal for people to build their own businesses. Society has impressed upon us that you go to school, get a good job, and get the white house with the picket fence and live happily ever after.
You realize that everything people and society have polluted your mind with is completely wrong. You start to realize that in order for you to have a successful life you need to be different and be the “Outsider”.
You need to take the road less traveled and carve your own path.
The rebuilding phase- You now have the right mindset to tackle this mountain head-on. You hit rock bottom, so what do you have to lose? You’re more hungry this time than when you started the first time.
You now spend every spare minute of your time devoting yourself to your business. You failed the first time, but you learned a valuable lesson and now know what not to do.
Three months pass and your now back and going. You now have a plan of how you’re going to succeed. You’re working your day job you hate and go home and work until you pass out at your laptop.
You start feeling good again and feel confident you can do it this time.
Now another roadblock is thrown your way, your boss is treating you worse and threatening you will lose your job if you don’t start meeting the new production numbers the company recently set forth. You are so miserable you can barely drag yourself into work.
You realize this very minute you either commit yourself to your business or you give up and focus on your day job. You decide you will no longer allow your day job to stress you out and you decide to demand better for yourself so you quit your job. Your boss is completely shocked and thinks you’re crazy to give up a job you worked 8 years for.
You’re completely on cloud 9 now, until you realize this is real now. You know you either make this work or you get to go back to another day job.
You decide now that it’s all or nothing so you sell everything you own( car, computers, anything of value), and you buy a one-way ticket to start your own venture to make your dream come true.
You know as crazy as this may be to most of your friends and family this will be the key to your success.
You know in your heart you need to do something that terrifies you so much it will force you out of your comfort zone and only give you one option— To Succeed!!
You remember how you read before that your “Net Worth Is Dependent On Your Network”. You know in order to succeed you need to surround yourself with people who will push you harder and make you demand better for yourself.
The day it’s time to start something new and you have an emotional breakdown. In the morning you have to tell your family and your best friend goodbye and you don’t know when you will be back to see them. It’s the hardest thing you ever had to do in your life. It made you dig deep in yourself to commit yourself to follow this plan through.
The moment you start your first website you are completely terrified. You’ve never been so scared in your life. You start thinking everyone who said you’re crazy was right. You start thinking about how real everything is now. It now set in that you sold your car, your bed, and everything you spent years working hard for.
The whole 18 hours of flight time you’re completely miserable. You’re so sick to your stomach and all you can think of is I just possibly made the biggest mistake of my life. You hope that you don’t let everyone down who is pushing you to succeed and believe in you.
Once you arrive you face many problems including self-doubt, culture shock, and missing your family. You still go through self-doubts on a daily basis, but you keep pushing yourself to keep working hard. You spend every day working towards your dream.
You battle yourself for two months thinking you will or won’t make this a success. You debate daily if you should give up and buy a ticket back home, but you keep pushing along and networking with people who have successful 7 figure businesses. You finally catch a break along the way and you fall into a business you didn’t initially plan on doing.
Now you start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel– You see the possibilities and you know all the hard work you put in is finally starting to pay off.
Success Phase- Now you’re starting to see steady growth. You’re becoming popular and in demand and clients are seeking out your expertise and want to work with you. You now realize what you are capable of, and you know the most valuable skill you have is a positive mindset.
You now see your future as much different and you focus on believing in yourself and know you can achieve anything you want to. You now are focusing on growing your business and building other businesses as you see opportunities.
You now are starting to outsource the work so you have more time to focus on creating new businesses and brainstorming. The countless hours of sleep you lost all paid for itself.
If you haven’t figured it out yet this is my story. This is exactly how things played out for me. When you decide to embark on the path of Entrepreneurship you will be faced with many obstacles and you will be tested. The best asset you can have is a positive mindset.
I battled myself daily and most of the ideas I came up with were failures, but I kept pushing along.
I’m telling you this story so you can realize you are no different than I am. I wasn’t just handed a bank account full of money and I had to go through the phases to reach success. It’s a constant challenge to grow a business, but with the right mindset, you can achieve anything.
Your thoughts, your ideas, and how you feel about yourself become your reality. If you believe you can or can’t do something— It’s true.
When you first get started you may have to do things you don’t enjoy doing why you’re building your brand. My goal in life was to motivate others to quit their jobs and start their own business, create an outsourcing center, and eventually, I want to start a Bulldog Rescue. I’m still working on these ones by one, but I know in my head I can achieve all of them. In order to achieve these goals, I had to do what it takes in the beginning why I was building my dream business.
When you start out you can freelance, write articles, and build backlinks for other entrepreneurs. You can write articles for $5-10 apiece, that sure beats a day job. By doing other small jobs to pay the bills, you can focus all of your energy and passion on building the life you truly want.
The first step is to decide what you want out of life and what business would make you happy, from there you build your plan around that. In my future posts, I will document how I got started making money and ways you can get started as well. If I didn’t start out with these little jobs I wouldn’t be able to live the life I do now.
You learn to crawl, walk, and then run. When you go into business for yourself you learn the same way. I remember when I first arrived in the Philippines and I almost gave up. I couldn’t find clients and I was doubting myself, I was depressed and I stopped working for about three days. I took a few days off and came back with a fresh mindset that I could achieve my goal if I stick out the hard times. By doing this, it’s forced me to grow as a person and not just my business.
Three weeks later and I was negotiating big outsourcing deals and looking into expanding my business. Success is right past the line of where you want to give up. You will be tested many times in life and business, even after you get big. Learning to adapt to changes and having the willpower to stick it out until you reach your goal separates the winners from the losers.
As you can see, I’m just an average guy with minimal education and I’m creating a successful business. I didn’t have any special advantages over anyone, I wasn’t poor, but I was taught if I wanted something nice in life I had to work hard at it.
I no longer rely on a boss to tell me what to do and when to do it. If you demand better for yourself and commit everything you have to see it through you will be able to create a life others dream of having. I hope this helps you see the possibilities. Stay tuned for future posts.
